Mykonos was the opposite of Istanbul. It's a small Greek Island in the Cyclades group, quiet, well behaved and polite. The harbour wasn't deep enough to take a cruise ship so we were ferried to shore in lighters. The crowd from the cruise ship swamped the streets close to shore but there was a real town a little deeper in and the wash from the cruise ships didn't go very far. Somehow people on this island found a way to earn a living, though it's not clear what there was to do to earn a paycheck. One way was to run a delightful little family restaurant; it's silly to rave about a Greek salad, but it really was the best salad I've ever had, and there was very little to it. I suspect the chain connecting grower and consumer is very short in this place.
